American Idol: Ramiro Garcia was born without ears

The final auditionee from American Idol’s Galveston auditions was Ramiro Garcia. Ramiro’s story is a truly remarkable one. He was actually born without ears.

Normally when a reality TV auditionee says they were born different, we roll our eyes and prepare for a bad audition. However, Ramiro’s story really stands out. He was missing one ear and the other one was only partially formed with just and ear lobe. His parent were told that he would grow up deaf and mute.

However, Ramiro underwent a painstaking amount of surgery to build his ears and save his hearing. A Worship Leader at Lakewood Church, Ramiro went on to sing Amazing Grace for the Idol judges. He shows off a very emotional voice -each of the judges seemed to be touched by his performance. Summing up the audition, Steven Tyler told Ramiro:

Nice. I’m glad you sang that verse. You know what? I like what I’m hearing. I like your insides. You did well, man.

Ramiro's father cries as they wait for newsWe thought this was a beautiful moment: Waiting outside the audition room, Ramiro’s father can’t help but cry as he anticipates the result. And proving what a people person he is, Ryan Seacrest consoles him, saying “It’s alright. You can get emotional. It’s okay. Don’t you worry about it.”

Ramiro walked away with his golden ticket after all three judges voted him through to the Hollywood round. We’d love to hear what you all think – can you see Ramiro making it through to the live shows?
