Live Blog: American Idol 2012 – Houston, Texas Auditions

Savannah, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Aspen are done. What will Houston auditions bring us tonight? One can only hope a little less Magic and a lot more Shelby. Note: Kelly Clarkson was discovered in Houston.
Phong Vu, 25 from Houston, TX. Phong chose an interesting song to start the Houston auditions, “Unbreak My Heart” by Tony Baxton. Though he’s spiritual and feels winning would be a “phenomenon,” maybe he should follow his passion somewhere else. Not only was his accent a problem, but he couldn’t hold a tune and his dance moves were even less “iconic.” His tears showed either he’s a real emotional mess, or he … really believes that performing is where he belongs. I wonder if that guy waiting outside for him was just as shocked that he didn’t make it through?
Lamounte Hall from Texas is proof that they put some of these people through to keep the judges on their toes. Also, here’s a tip to auditioners: do not choose the same song Scotty McCreery auditioned with. You don’t have the natural voice he does and it’s just embarrassing.
Skylar Laine, 17 from Mississippi- Whoa. whoa. Whoa. Anyone else have goosebumps? The judges like that she has an identity already. I like that she has hunting survival skills.
Baylie Brown, 21 from New Jersey- Bailey’s been on just about every promo for American Idol, so when she started to sing Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses” you knew she’d be going through. However, the commercial didn’t know that Bailey’s back for a second time after appearing on the show when she was 16. Her voice is rich and beautiful. In a way the hair metal classic sounded country. LOVED it.
The Boys Club vs. Jennifer- Jennifer Lopez had enough when she said yes to a variety of girls, but the guys said no. The problem was that these girls were good, but they aren’t voices that stand out. It’s like those girls with good voices at karaoke each week. Deep breaths J. Lo, deep breaths.
Alejandro Cazares 26, from Houston, TX. The Alejandro Revolution? He’s the perfect politician because he hypes everyone up even though no one has a clue what he’s talking about. He chose “Look Up” by Paramore for his audition song. There’s no denying he felt the lyrics of the song, but maybe he should think about some vocal lessons before fighting for his revolution.
Cortez Shaw from Garland, TX. Normally I’d say NO ADELE, that is unless you are Cortez. His upbeat version of “Someone Like You” was unlike anything we’ve heard yet. Goosebumps anyone? Doesn’t hurt that he has personality, too.
Ramiro Garcia, 28 from Houston, TX. Ramiro was born with no ears, but had corrective surgery over the years so he could hear and talk. Unlike others with sob stories, he seems nice and down to earth, like he is not trying to use it to get to Hollywood. The worship leader belted out a heavenly version of “Amazing Grace.” His voice is easily THE best audition we’ve seen so far.
Best Quotes of the Night:
“I still find it hard to tell people they suck,” Steven Tyler.
“You know what they say.. don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.” – Steven Tyler

So did Ramiro make it through???
He made it to Hollywood.. but he did not make the cut IN Hollywood
Wasn’t he so great?
Wow, that’s too bad. I really liked him.
