Nicole Scherzinger may not come back to The X Factor for its second season because she wants to focus on her music (or she won’t be invited back), but L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul are interested in joining the judges panel once again.

Of course, Paula would be back! Could you imagine a show with Simon Cowell judging in the United States without his pet at his side? Even if they don’t see eye to eye all the time, the pair have deep feelings for each other.. At the least of a friendship sort! Paula confirmed the new to PEOPLE, adding that she would be back “unless something weird and bizarre happens.”

She’s also understanding to the changes Simon needs to make to the show. “It’ll be successful if you are open to tweaking things,” said Paula Abdul. “I understand pros and cons of the value of having these big production numbers, but … I am a fan of less is more.”

While Paula is set for a return, L.A. also said he wants to come back, but it’s not his decision. “I would love to come back,” Reid said. “What I don’t like is, I love it so much. I don’t control it, it’s up to the boss.” Truth be told- we’d like you back to, just the L.A. that appeared in the second half of the season, not the first!
