American Idol: Heejun Han is the Talk of Hollywood Week! Groups Day 1 Recap

The good news is that Symone Black is okay! During her initial audition for Hollywood week, the 16-year-old passed out and fell off the stage. After getting checked out at the hospital she returned just in time for group auditions.
Speaking of group auditions..
The remaining contestants paired up in groups up to five people each. They had to include members from both days to assure no group has an advantage of additional practice. Some performers had difficulties finding a group, but ultimately everyone made friends and got to work.
Amy Brumfield was one struggling to find a group because she was sick with the flu. Eventually she found a group, but spent the entire day struggling with a lack of energy and muscle weakness. Her bug quickly made it around the group as Gabby Carruba also fell victim to the flu. Despite throwing up, she continued practicing with her group, The Bettys, to get the audition perfect.
The group that got the most attention in tonight’s episode was easily MIT. Heejun Han, Phillip Phillips, Richie Lawson (American Idol’s resident cowboy) and Jairon Jackson are the “most diverse group” in the competition. As the group starts working, Richie takes over in a bit of a controlling manner because he has a music theory background. At one point the tells the cameras that it’s his way or no way when it comes to singing and choreography.
Though Richie was a bit overwhelming, we thank him. Due to his persistence and attitude the world got to see just who Heejun is! People are going to love or hate Heejun, but honestly- how can you not LOVE him? If Daria was a 1. A real person 2. An Asian-American man, she would be Heejun. He’s monotoned and sarcastic, making immature observations about every day life.
Phillip had to leave for a few hours to rest due to a kidney stone problem, leaving Jairon, Heejun and Richie to master the routine. Here’s what Heejun had to say at first about the unpleasant experience:
“We started off rough. Phillip had a kidney stone and cowboy had a .. I don’t know.. brain stone… All my friends are going to watch this and make fun of me because of this cowboy.” He later added: “Now I have a very bad perspective of cowboys. Even the Dallas Cowboys. Freaking cowboys.” Aw, poor Heejun!
Next week we can look forward to the group performances on Wednesday’s episode. MIT and The Bettys have a lot of tension, but sometimes tension can create great music.
Which group do you think will make the biggest impact?
