What an intense night over at American Idol! No one really knew how the show would play out as fan favorites, such as Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon, were voted off far too early in the competition. It was down to Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez for the final three. Read more & comment »

Tonight on American Idol the judges wanted Phillip Phillips to show that he can stick with a melody. This is why they chose “Beggin’” for his judges selection. Steven Tyler explained that Phillip loves to make his own, but needs to appreciate melodies that do exist. Phillip brought the song to life. I had never heard that song and am the type of person to lose interest in any music I don’t know well, but I was completely into it. The song had swag, jam and pop all rolled into one. The entire crowd was clapping along and nearly drowning him out with scream at the end. Read more & comment »

Jessica Sanchez started her night on American Idol off on a bad note. The judges chose Mariah Carey’s “My All” for Jessica to sing to show that she can sing powerful ballads, but also show a softer side. What an awful, awful mistake for the judges. Read more & comment »

It’s down to the final three on American Idol. Who could impress America tonight to make it to next week’s finale?
Joshua Ledet kicked off tonight’s show with a song that judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson chose for him. They felt Etta James’ “I’d Rather be Blind” was the perfect fit for him because the song is full of emotion and showcases Joshua’s ability to “throw back.” Randy put it best when he said “Why fix what’s not broken?” Read more & comment »

Inspiring, touching, shocking and hilarious are just four words you could use to describe “America’s Got Talent” contestant Granny G.

Impersonation is the best form of flattery, if done correctly.
Dave Burleigh was the first comedian of the evening on “America’s Got Talent,” using another popular reality show as a platform. The comedian explained that he specializes in celebrity impressions. The beginning of his skit was cute as he impersonated “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron introducing the “stars” on the show. Read more & comment »

At least one time tonight everyone held their breath during “America’s Got Talent.” 17-year-old Cristin Sandu took stage with a gift unlike anyone else tonight, boasting that he could build a structure and balance on it way above the stage.
Cristin built a structure of beams, chairs and tubes before climbing to the top of the massive structure. He stretched across the top and held the pose, leaving the judges impressed, but uncertain if it was the right act to win $1 million. Howie Mandel made the best point when he noted that it took more time to build the structure than complete the entire act. However, this was an interesting part of his performance. David Garibaldi and his CMYK’s left a lasting impression on America’s Got Talent viewers (and judges) tonight. It’s only the second night of auditions and some of the best talent’s already surfaced. One area in which America’s Got Talent excels is in bringing incredible new combinations of dance and art to the public. Last year it was Silhouettes, and this year we’ve got Light Wire Theatre.
Before the performance, Nick Cannon stepped in to warn the audience that they’d be killing all the lights in the theatre and not to be groping their neighbours. And then the Light Wire people bounced onto the stage. They seem to have custom made costumes that create the impression of lit-up line drawings. Two T-Rex’s battled it out on stage, and were briefly replaced with three enormous dancing flowers. The dinosaurs then returned to the stage.

Obviously this year, America’s Got Talent is well aware that dance troupes are a dime a dozen. In her pep talk to Elements Dance Cru, the choreographer is seen telling the girls that they need to stand out or they’ll be just like everybody else.
Even Sharon Osbourne notes this when she asks Elements’ leader what makes them so different. The answer’s a good one – she says “We take clogging, but then we adapt it to different styles of music and add a theme and even some different styles of music within it. So it’s very unique.”
